Well, then we need to double our efforts to ensure it does revert. It makes little economic and cultural sense to fracture this bond. None. And Carney's language and rhetoric of "rupture" is no more responsible than Trump's blustering.
It's confusing to categorize what Carney is doing. Is it hubris/naivety as in never send a central banker/economist to a knife fight, is it short term political advantage by using Trump as foil to create the conditions to win a majority, or a longer game in playing for time to avoid substantive concessions to Trump and looking forward to a post-2028 US revisionist regime.
Personally, I wish he could channel a little inner Deng - "Keep a cool head and maintain a low profile. Never take the lead - but aim to do something big."
